Specific Learning Targets

The purpose of this course is to provide the appropriate basic education (historical and artistic, psychological, esthetic, legal, managerial) related to fashion and/or interior design.

Generally speaking, this undergraduate course aims to form an expert capable of dealing with innovations and dynamics present in various fields of fashion and interior design and it also prepares students to meet cultural, technological and production challenges by stimulating their creativity both in a communicative and conceptual way. In particular, the future expert should be familiar with all the means and techniques related to design project presentation both in fashion and interior design areas (technical, analogical and digital drawings, photography and layouts for project description), techniques for presentation of images and visual communication, mechanisms of perception. Furthermore, they have to acquire basic elements of the project (the structure of product range or collection) and all the elements necessary for its realisation, communication and sales (visual merchandising, events, show room fitting, magazines etc.)  During the three year study, the students have to acquire:

- Knowledge in liberal arts (Italian literature including the contemporary literature, modern and contemporary history, history of modern theatre)

- Scientific and technological skills typical for Engineering science (materials used for fashion and interior design products, techniques used for prototype creation, process and manufacturing technologies, economic production system)

- Managerial and economic skills (costs evaluation, organization and management models, strategy and company management)

- Historical and critical knowledge (related to sociology of consumption and fashion, fabrics and their historical development, study on anthropology, history of art etc.)

This year the main course orientation related to fashion and design is enriched by the possibility of deeper studying of interior design.

Final examination peculiarities

The final exam consists of a dissertation thesis related to one of the subjects studied during the course, written under teacher supervision and with the possible assistance of one or more tutors. In the thesis (written in English) the student will demonstrate the acquisition of specific cultural skills and critical elaboration .The thesis has to demonstrate its quality both in subject and in structure. During the thesis presentation the following criteria will be taken into consideration: 1) thesis entirety; 2) methodology; 3) obtained results and clarity of presentation. The final vote is written in 110 point scale. For outstanding results, the Lode "praise" is added to the maximum grade.

Occupational and Professional Outlets

The graduates from Design and fashion disciplines undergraduate course will be able to work both in private and public sectors or even as free lancers in the following areas: fashion and textile industry, interior design field, ateliers and professional studios, companies, showrooms, marketing agencies, publishing or in the companies or institutions which organize cultural events or fashion shows.
